Four bodies have been found floating in the River Seine,in the outskirts of Paris.
A commuter alerted French police after spotting – from the window of the RER C train he was travelling in – what appeared to be the body of a man.
He sounded the alarm at around 1pm on Wednesday and directed police and emergency services to a street along the river in the town of Choisy-le-Roi,Val-de-Marne.
Officers were dispatched to the scene and the body of a man was found in the water.
A second body – located just about 50 metres from the first – was spotted shortly after.
Upon further investigation,a third body was then pulled out from branches alongside the river, and finally a fourth, drifting with the current.
Le Parisien reported that the four victims were adult men. Three were fully clothed, while a fourth was naked.
It is understood they had been submerged in the River Seine for a few days before the discovery.
Meanwhile,Actu17 reported that three of the men are of African descent and a fourth of North African descent.
They have been transported to the Paris Institute of Forensic Medicine for identification and autopsy.
There is currently no evidence to suggest that all four victims died at the same time.
A source close to the investigation said: ‘ An autopsy will be performed this Thursday morning and will shed more light on the circumstances of their deaths.
‘There is no evidence to suggest a criminal investigation at this stage.’
