A man has died and a girl has been injured in a shooting at branch of Tesco.
Witnesses reported seeing a man with a suspicious item strapped to his body at the supermarket in Carlow,Ireland,at 6.15pm on Sunday.
Described as a white,Irish adult,he fired shots into the shop before turning the gun on himself.
A young girl had to be treated at the scene by paramedics but was allowed to go home with her family.
CCTV footage from a nearby barber’s shop in the Fairgreen shopping centre captured the moment gunshots could be heard.
The barbers appear startled by the first bang before a second shot that scared the customers.
Bomb units were called in to handle the suspicious item he had tied to his body. It has not been confirmed whether the device was an explosive.
Local councillor Fergal Browne said: ‘People were obviously terrified. A bank holiday Sunday,going into town to do their shopping. People ran from the centre crying and upset.

‘There was a bunch of foreign students in the area,who could not believe they were caught up in the middle of all of it.’
Speaking after the incident was brought under control,he said: ‘It’s very upsetting for everyone who was involved in it or who witnessed it.’
Ireland’s taoiseach,Michael Martin,wrote on X: ‘My thoughts are with the families affected and the local community in Carlow after what was a very serious and traumatic incident.’
Police continue to investigate.
